HOW FLOORBALL IN KENYA IS PLAYED
Floorball is an indoor type of hockey game. The game has been given different names in different parts of the world. For example, in Finland, they refer to it as salibandy, innebandy in Sweden and unihockey in other parts of Europe. In Kenya, it is referred to as Floorball which is also the official IFF term used all over the world.
Floorball In Kenya Gameplay
Floorball is a game played with both male and female players. Each team is required to have a total of 6 players that is inclusive of the goalkeeper. The game does not require bulky equipment because the players are only required to use 96–115.5 cm-long (37.8–45.5 in) sticks and a 22–23 cm balls characterized by 1516 tiny dimples that reduce air resistance, and also friction on the floor.
Measurements Of a Floorball Pitch In Kenya
Floorball is an indoor game played on a rink whose size varies from 18–20 m wide to 36–40 m long, and which is surrounded by 50 cm high enclosed boards with rounded corners. The goals are 160 cm wide and 115 cm high. Their depth is 65 cm and they are 2.85 m from the end of the nearest boards. Face-off dots are marked on the center line. Dots are also marked 1.5 m from both sides of the rink on the goal lines imaginary extensions. The dots don’t exceed 30 cm in diameter. They do not have to be dots, they can be crosses also.
Equipment For Playing Floorball
Other equipment for a floorball player consists of a pair of shorts, a shirt, socks, and indoor sport shoes. Players may wear eye protectors and protective padding for vital areas. Goalkeepers wear limited protection which includes padded pants, a padded chest protector, knee pads, soccer goalkeeping gloves, and a helmet.
RULES OF THE GAME.
Like other games, floorball too got rules. Some of the basic rules include:
- The blade must stay below the player’s knee and no ball is to be played above the player’s knee.
- no jumping to reach the ball.
- Do not use your head or hand to play.
- Slashing is also not allowed,
- A player is not allowed to lift, hit, kick or push the opponents stick, and a lot more others.
Floorball in Kenya is still new and evolving. It was first included in the World Games in 2017 which was won by Sweden. Internationally it is organized by the International Floorball Federation (IFF). In Kenya, the game has a male national team which has played against Uganda’s National team. The results came out 3-1 in Favor of The Kenyan Team.
